Clematis, the queen of climbing plants – great ideas for your yard and garden

Thanks to its wide and impressive flowers, Clematis belong to the classical ornamental plants and at the same time its ability to grow quickly with healthy flowers, ranks it at the top of the climbing plants. Below you will see how applying some basic care can transform your garden into a queen.
The variety of species is great. It starts from a green vines and reaches a large vines. The species differ in their growth rate and blooming season but have one thing in common: the ability to climb bare walls of buildings, fences and trees.

Planting period

The best time to plant the plants you purchased in a flower pot is between August and October. To remove the vines from the flower pot, you can cut it carefully so as not to injure its delicate roots. The soil in the pot must be kept moist. If the soil dries, place the flower pot in a bucket of water.

Location

Nature is the best indication of where you should plant the plants in your garden. In the forest, the wild vine climbs over the trees and shrubs in search of the sun. So the top is in the sun and the base of the plant in the shade – you have to keep this in mind when planting the plants in your garden. In general, the vines do not withstand the sun at its base. A good solution is to plant around the vines that will provide shade at its base. You can also create shade with old broken branches, stones or other garden ornaments. If there are short standing plants with imposing roots, we recommend separating them with the liner material. This will ensure that the roots will find the necessary nutrients in the soil.

Planting

Once you have found the right place for your queen, you can begin digging a large and deep hole. The soil should be rich in nutrients and moisture.
You can cover the bottom with small stones. This is especially recommended when the soil is heavy or clayey. Stones prevent water retention. If the water stays in the roots, they will begin to rot, causing the whole plant to wither.
You can even mix the digged soil with composted soil: this way the soil breathes and the plant can grow freely. Then close the hole with the mixed soil and carefully water the small plant.

Climbing support

The vines can reach up to three meters high.
With the help of propellers it is able to stick on trees, fences and walls. If there is no climbing bracket you can use a frame, the individual elements of which can consist of vertical and horizontal boards, wires, etc. Roses arches, pergolas and wall meshes can also be used. We recommend that you install climbing support at the same time you plant your plants.
